Climbing in Marocco

Lately, I have heard about a very interesting place in Marroco in terms of climbing area. It’s called the Todhga Gorge and lies in the eastern part of the High Atlas Mountains. It’s a series of a limestone river canyons or wadi. Walls of the gorge comes up to 300-400 meters high and are red like seasoning curry. When you reach a top or at least certain height climbing, you could contamplate and appreciate the beauty of the landscapes. It’s like a paradies for climbers because of numerosity and variety of climbing routes.

Are you inspired to go there? It’s nothing difficult! Buy an air ticket from Cracow or Warsaw to Marrakesh, catch a bus from the capital to the gorge and enjoy your climbing!

I hope to go there one day…

Free solo climbing

Hi! Last week I saw a video mady by The North Face about Alex Honnold who is one of the most legendary free cimbers in the world. Alex Honnold is a thirty three years old American rock climber. In June 2017, Alex Honnold made international news with the first free-solo ascent of El Capitan in Yosemite, on a route rated 5.13a in the Yosemite Decimal System. He is the only one free-soloist who has reached it.

And, in fact, what is free solo climbing? It is a form of free climbing where a climber doesn’t use any protective equipment: neither rope nor harness. On the rock or wall he can rely only on himself and his abilities. For me, it’s one of the most dangerous discipline of sport and I can’t imagine that there are people who really climb on such height without nothing more than their own hands and magnesia!

The video shows how Alex Honnold climb El Sendero Luminoso – a rock at El Potrero Chico en Mexico which rises over 450 m up the front side of El Toro.

Interesting climbing areas

I want to encourge you to go for climbing at least one time in your life. Firstly, you can go to indoor climbing wall, and secondly to the rocks. If you want to climb rocks you should visit one of a climbing area in “Jura Północna”, Area Podkrakowska, Śnieżne Kotły, Tatry or many others. Sokoliki is the nearest, climbing area, to Poznań (about 290 kms). Every polish climber is waiting for the ending of winter and starting a new climbing season. But if you can take days off from your work or university, you can go to Spain, Italy or Greece where there are a lot of rocks which are not reached by you!

I have never been abroad to climbing yet but I’m planning to go to Gandia or Chulilla – a very beautiful and interesting climbing area nearby Valencia.

Bouldering

Other form of rock climbing is bouldering. It is said that bouldering is a climbing a rock in the most tough way. You don’t have to use neither rope nor harness. You can wear only special climbing shoes and it’s recommended to use magnesia. After reach a top you jump to mattress. In Poznań there are a few places when you can train, for example Blok House or Climbing Spot. I think it’s a good complementary training of the classical climbing. You can bring to perfection your technique and tone your muscles. In addition to training, it’s a good occasion to spend your free time instead of channel swimming or sitting on the coach.

The Dawn Wall

On last Thursday we had an opportunity to watch in the Multikino cinema very exciting movie specially for climbers. The title of this movie was The Dawn Wall. The film showed  two climbers Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson who were climbing on the top of El Capitan – the most tough road in the world. El Capitan lies in the Yosemite National Park in the western Sierra Nevada of Central California. The movie showed the unimaginable struggle of this two guys to reach El Capitan. I really recomend you to watch this movie!

Mountain-climbing

A mountain-climbing is a sport which force you to be resolute, brave and responsible. When you are climbing to the top  you have to think out about every single next step: where will be the best next hold, where will be the most comfortable place to put your foot. During the climbing you have to trust to the three things: your partner, your equipment and yourself. But after you reach the top, you can feel the satisfaction!

Dolina Będkowska

Sunbathe on the beach

To go to the beach you don’t need so much: only what you have to take is a swimsuit, sunglasses, a sunscreen and a towel. Lie on a soft sand and enjoy the sun rays. There are many places with beautiful beaches. But no country has a beach that extend in so many kilometers, that at Baltic See. This time I recommend you to go to Hel Peninsula!

Visit new places!

I believe that traveling and visiting new places broadens the perception of the world, helps to understand different people and culture. I think that traveling gives possibilities to get known also the local customs, traditions and history.

I recommend you to visit Kraków, one of the most beautiful city in Poland.

Do you like animals?

Imagine that you are drinking coffee in the morning with singing birds …

If you like animals, calmness, silence, I suggest you go camping.

The forest is a place where you can contemplate and live in the nature.

You can calm down your nerves there, you can think about your life or just stop thinking and enjoy the sun or swimming in a lake.

In the forest you can rest out of the crowd and noise
